India’s automobile sector has seen a wave of price reductions following the rationalisation of GST slabs under Modi govt's new GST 2.0 framework. The new vehicle tax structure, to be effective from September 22, has two main slabs -- 18% for small cars (petrol/LPG/CNG under 1,200 cc and sub-4-metre length; diesel up to 1,500 cc) and 40% for larger or luxury vehicles -- replacing the prior 28% plus cess tax bracket.
