What was meant to be a peaceful evening stroll after work turned into a moment of pure shock for a man in Gujarat, and surprisingly, for a lion too. The unexpected face-to-face meeting, caught on CCTV, has left social media both amused and amazed.
The video, shared by retired Indian Forest Service officer Susanta Nanda, shows a cement factory worker in Junagadh casually walking near a house, hands behind his back, as dogs bark in the background. Unbeknown to him, a lion was also wandering nearby, heading towards the same spot from the opposite direction.
With the house blocking their view, both continued on their paths, until they turned the corner and locked eyes.
What happened next stunned viewers: in a split second of mutual panic, the man bolted in one direction… and the lion ran in the other.
Calling it a “rare reverse chase,” Nanda said the big cat’s reaction was likely down to the “element of surprise”.
Social Media Reacts
The clip, which has racked up nearly half a million views, sparked a mix of laughter and caution online.
One user commented, “Think he never got cautious despite dogs giving those warnings and alarm calls. Dogs give amazing alarm calls at night, especially for leopards. One ought to keep guard and remain vigilant when animals behave unusually, especially near wilderness.”
Another joked, “After running 100 metres, the lion realised, wait, I am a lion! Why am I running?”
