As elections in Bihar are due to this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched and laid the foundation stone of development projects worth over ₹13,000 crore during his four-hour tour of the election-bound state, covering Gayaji, Patna and Begusarai districts.

As part of the “Grih Pravesh” ceremony, symbolic keys were handed over to beneficiaries of the PMAY schemes, 12,000 under PMAY-Gramin and 4,260 under PMAY-Urban. "16,000 pucca houses given in Bihar's Magadh region today, we are committed to provide such dwellings to every poor family in country," PM Modi said while addressing a public rally.

The Prime Minister also launched a sharp attack on the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) claiming that no major project was completed in Bihar during RJD and Congress' rule. The PM also said that the parties never think about people's betterment and are always busy filling pockets.

He said, “What was the plight here during the 'lalten (lantern) raj'... during the 'lalten raj' this region was in the grip of 'red terror'. Due to Maoists, it was difficult to travel anywhere after evening. Cities like Gayaji used to be complete darkness during 'lalten raj'. There was no electricity in thousands of villages. They compelled several generations to migrate from Bihar.”

He added that Bihar's rapid development is NDA government's big priority. "...That is why Bihar is progressing on the path of all round development today."

PM Modi also lashed out at Congress for their alleged hatred for people of Bihar. “For them, the people of Bihar are only a vote bank; they have no concern for the struggles of the poor. You may recall how a Congress CM once said from a stage that Biharis would not be allowed to enter their state. Such is Congress’ hatred towards the people of Bihar. Our effort is to ensure that Bihar’s sons and daughters find employment and live a life of dignity here itself.”

Development push ahead of elections
At Gayaji, the Prime Minister inaugurated a 660 MW power project in Buxar, built at a cost of ₹6,880 crore, and addressed a public rally.

He also inaugurated the 1.86-km-long six-lane Aunta-Simaria bridge on the Ganga River, constructed at a cost of over ₹1,870 crore. The bridge will provide direct connectivity between Mokama in Patna and Begusarai.

In addition, Modi opened the four-lane Bakhtiyarpur-Mokama section of NH-31, built at a cost of about ₹1,900 crore, aimed at easing congestion and cutting travel time.
