A high-level meeting was held on Tuesday between Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, National Statistical Commission (NSC) chairman Professor Rajiva Laxman Karandikar, and statistics ministry secretary Saurabh Garg, which focused on strengthening UP’s statistical system to support its vision of becoming $1 trillion economy.
The meeting took place ahead of a one-day state interaction of the NSC with the Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES), UP.
The chief minister emphasised the state’s commitment to data-driven planning and real-time monitoring through initiatives such as the CM Dashboard and the One Trillion Economy Mission, the ministry of statistics and programme implementation (MoSPI) said in a statement.
Further, he expressed the state's readiness to collaborate closely with MoSPI and NSC. He highlighted that robust and credible data is critical for measuring progress in key sectors like agriculture, industry, health, and education.
UP aims to become a $1 trillion economy by 2030.
Professor A Ganesh Kumar and Asit Kumar Sadhu, members of the NSC, also attended the meeting.
Garg reaffirmed MoSPI's ongoing support under the “Support for Statistical Strengthening (SSS)” scheme.
The secretary assured that "both technical and financial assistance will continue to be extended to Uttar Pradesh for developing modern statistical infrastructure, enhancing data management systems, and conducting training and workshops for DES officials on emerging methodologies and technologies", the ministry said.
Professor Karandikar noted the crucial role of statistics in policy making.
The meeting also discussed the importance of using administrative and alternative data sources, leveraging technology for real-time reporting, and adopting uniform standards in line with the National Statistical System.
