Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A shocking case of extortion has surfaced from the Ashoka Garden area of the capital city, where a local property dealer was threatened with a demand of Rs 25 lakh by a former business associate.
The accused, Mohammad Faiz, allegedly made threatening calls to the victim, warning of dire consequences, including murder, if the money was not paid, Ashoka Garden police said here on Sunday.

According to the police officials, acting on the victim’s complaint, the police traced the calls and arrested the accused based on his mobile number.
Investigations revealed that Faiz and the complainant, Mohammad Mateen, were once close friends and had earlier partnered in an auto dealing business. The partnership ended after business losses.
Accused allegedly planned the extortion out of financial desperation
Mateen, now a successful property dealer in Mayur Vihar Colony, had lent Faiz over Rs 5.25 lakh in financial assistance. However, driven by jealousy and financial desperation, Faiz allegedly planned the extortion.
The police have registered a case, and the accused has been sent to jail. Police station incharge Anurag Lal confirmed the arrest. Further investigation is underway.
