Ashta (Madhya Pradesh): The civic body has enough staff to install number plates on houses, but the department has allegedly engaged a contractor to do the work in Ashta city.
The Nagar Palika is also surveying the number of houses for mutation. According to reports, the contractors are taking Rs 50 from each house owner to install number plates.
There are allegations that the civic body is installing the number plates on houses in all 18 wards in Ashta city through a private agency by floating a tender.
Some residents alleged that the contractors were carelessly doing the work and that the number plates they were installing did not match with the original numbers of the houses mentioned in registry papers.
The purpose is to identify the houses, said official sources. A resident, Ramesh Chandra Gupta, said the contractor was charging Rs 50 from each house to put the number plates.
On the other hand, revenue inspector of the civic body Manohar Singh Javriya said the mutation of only 14,053 houses had been done.
