Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): In a special session of Municipal Corporation Council presided by chairman Manoj Singh Tomar, several significant proposals related to naming public infrastructure and installing statues were approved to honour eminent personalities and local icons.
Key approvals included naming the newly constructed bridge near Vivekanand Needam as Swami Vivekanand Setu, and renaming the road from Gole Ka Mandir to Chauraha No 7 as Prabhat Jha Marg, marking the late leader’s first death anniversary. Statues of former mayors will be installed at Bal Bhavan.
Further approvals included renaming Race Course Road as Veer Yodha Maharana Pratap Marg, and Gudhi Tiraha as Sant Shiromani Shri Sen Ji Maharaj Tiraha. Several statues were approved for installation across the city, including those of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Pt. Ram Prasad Bismil, Maharaj Shursen Kachhwaha, Maharaj Nishadraj, Maharaja Daksh Prajapati, and Maharaja Agrasen.
Madhya Pradesh High Court Seeks Report Over Affiliation Of Paramedical CollegesVarious public housing and commercial projects under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana will be renamed to honour national leaders, including Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay, Dr Shyama Prasad Mookherjee, and Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Other complexes will bear the names of former mayors and local dignitaries.
Multiple road stretches and overbridges across Gwalior will also be renamed after notable local leaders, including Dr Dharmavir Sharma, Jagdish Gupta, Prabhakar Narayan Kelkar, Aruna Sainya, Omkar Prasad Mudgal, and Narayan Krishna Shejwalkar.
Chairman Manoj Tomar approved all these proposals, marking a comprehensive move to commemorate regional pride and public service contributions across Gwalior.
