Police in Firozabad have successfully apprehended an inter state gang of "robber brides" who would marry men and then flee with valuables. Two women, who collectively married approximately eight men across three states, were arrested along with three male accomplices.
The gang's modus operandi involved middleman Ajay Prakash and Amar, posing as relatives of the brides, convincing prospective grooms and extorting large sums of money in exchange for arranging the marriage.
The gang's activities came to light when a woman named Poonam approached Ajay Prakash to arrange a marriage for her cousin. After the wedding, the "robber bride" absconded after looting Poonam's cousin's home, prompting a police report.

The police then formed a special team to pose as prospective grooms and contacted the gang. When the gang arranged a meeting to introduce a "bride," the police team swiftly moved in, laying a trap and arresting five individuals, including the two women.
Investigations revealed that this prolific gang had orchestrated three such weddings in Chittorgarh, two in Haryana, and three in Uttar Pradesh. The gang's strategy was to commit one or two crimes in a state before moving on to another to evade detection.
