Ant and Decare renowned for their pranks, with programmes like Saturday Night Takeaway centred around playing jokes on celebrities and viewers alike.

But the presenting pair got their comeuppance when a member of staff at Mitre Studios turned the tables on them both.

During a filming break, Ant and Dec were spotted enjoying refreshments whilst chatting with a colleague in a fresh Instagram clip.

The unnamed woman then began spinning the duo a yarn about her 'mate' who was supposed to tie the knot.

Yet she was actually winding up the pair by recounting the storyline from TV drama The Summer I Turned Pretty, reports Chronicle Live.

"My friend was meant to get married yesterday, and it got cancelled the day before," she explained. "Because the groom's brother said that he was in love with her. And they used to date five years ago."

Ant could be heard gasping: "Shut up!" as the woman carried on, revealing: "So, on the wedding day, she told her fiance, and was like 'Your brother just told me he loved me last night still, I pick you.'

"And he was like, 'Can you look me in the eye and say that you don't have any feelings for him?' And, she said, 'I can't do that. There's still a part of me that will always love Connie.'"

Ant and Dec, who were both munching on bananas in the footage, appeared gobsmacked by the tale, with Ant declaring: "Oh my god, that's brilliant," whilst Dec interjected: "It's not brilliant!"

"No, what I mean is, as a story. Not for them!" Ant exclaimed. The employee then revealed that the bride had "flown to Paris" after cancelling her wedding.

"This is a bit large for me," Dec, who was visibly shocked by the story, commented. Meanwhile, Ant quipped: "Tell you what, there's a TV show in this!"

Dec then enquired about the groom's wellbeing, with Ant chiming in: "Would he like a message from Ant and Dec to cheer him up?"

Viewers were thoroughly entertained by the prank, with one remarking: "This is amazing! To say they have spent years fooling others and right there you have pranked them both! Dec's face is everything!"

"The best thing I've seen all year, pay rise for whoever created this," another viewer said, while a third fan noted: "You can tell Dec loves the gossip."
