Boxing icon Floyd Mayweather has slammed rumours of his financial downfall, insisting he's far from bankrupt.
Mayweather, who won titles in five different weight divisions, is one of the richest boxers in history. He earned around $200million for his final professional fight against in 2018 following a legendary career during which he demanded huge purses.
But recently, rumours have circulated about his financial affairs, including from analyst Stephen A. Smith who went as far as to publish a video questioning whether Mayweather is on the verge of bankruptcy. But the 48-year-old has hit back at his critics, attempting to leave no doubt as to the state of his bank balance.
"Everybody is entitled to their own opinion," Mayweather retorted. "But if that's what you call having two private jets, owning 100 buildings, and being able to do what you want, then I'm pretty sure everybody is going bankrupt. I'm not a liar. I work hard to build my name and build my reputation.
"I'm not going to let anyone go out there and smear my name and talk bad about me and my family. I wanted my payouts to be bigger so I could travel with my family and friends. I don't want to call this a real estate dynasty; it's just building generation wealth."
Mayweather, who hasn't fought since defeating John Gotti III in an exhibition bout last year, remains proud of his earnings, including the $200million from his swansong against McGregor. Mayweather continues to support , saying in 2021, "I will continue to give back to the sport of boxing in my time, and I will also give back financially because I got it.

"To my team, my guys in New York, and my other real estate team that's here today, we can't be stopped. In 32 months, I put myself in a position with a smart business team to make $300m a month. It all started from the sport of boxing."
He later doubled down, adding: "In 36 months of course. From one of my investments, I will be making $300m a month. Just in real estate. I'm heavy in my investing in real estate. Even though I have my own cash. I have a lot of cash, but you don't always have to use your money. You have to keep your credit right."
Mayweather continues to be called out despite his inactivity with even Canelo Alvarez, who lost to the American in 2013, demanding a rematch. He said recently: "Yes, of course [I would like to fight Mayweather again]. I would love the opportunity to get revenge. Obviously we know it's not going to happen but yes, I would love to get rid of that little thorn."
