Maria Sharapova was the Wimbledon champion back in 2004 as the then teenage star announced her arrival - and the Russian is back at Wimbledon for Day One and has shared a snap with Sir David Beckham.
Sharapova is one of tennis' great modern superstars and claimed her first Grand Slam when she downed Serena Williams 21 years ago. It set her on a path that would see her claim four more Grand Slams and earn fortunes. Throughout her career she claimed every Grand Slam on offer.
She is one of ten women to achieve the career Grand Slam in singles but eventually called time on her career in 2020. Sharapova was a blonde throughout her playing career but is now sporting a much darker look.
Sharapova is at Wimbledon as the championship kicks off and has taken a selfie with Beckham on Henman Hill, which she's shared on Instagram. The ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid star has jetted in from the United States to be at SW19.
Beckham arrives having recently been knighted by King Charles following years of calls for the football icon to receive the honour. He remains a national treasure and has been in the Royal Box at Wimbledon before.

Beckham has completed a quick turnaround having been at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Sunday. He will be in the Royal Box alongside his mum Sandra. Sharapova has been a long-time friend of the Beckhams, attending numerous fashion events with Victoria.
Sharapova, like so many former champions, has returned to the turf where she once ruled. The Russian also made the final in 2011 whilst she was a semi-finalists on three more occasions. She also came back to Wimbledon last year with the 38-year-old now a mother having given birth to her son in July 2022.

Her and Beckham are among the celebrities is attendance on what is a sun-baked day at Wimbledon. Former England cricketer Stuart Broad is at SW19. The bowler retired following the 2023 Ashes, leaving the game with 604 Test wickets to his name.
Music duo Marvin and Rochelle Humes have been snapped in south west London whilst House of Games favourite Richard Osman also in attendance.
Those at Wimbledon will get to see Carlos Alcaraz kick off the championships on Centre Court. The Spaniard is the defending champion and eyeing a third straight title. Katie Boulter is also on Centre with Emma Raducanu last up on Court One as she looks to emulate her famous run at the US Open.
