Young mum's 'genius' method for going to the beach and avoiding busy crowds

A young mum shared a “genius” method for getting the most out of a visit to the beach - and avoiding large crowds of people. The UK is home to a number of beautiful beaches, with sun and sea seekers spoiled for choice, with many scenic spots offering crystal clear waters and golden sands.

Going to the beach is the highlight of many people’s summers, with local holidays often centred on making the most of several days out at the beach - but they’re not without their flaws. Of course, the unreliable UK weather is a reasonable cause for concern but lots of people struggle with the sheer volume of visitors at the beach.

Those who prefer to avoid overly crowded places and don’t want to be overstimulated by countless beachgoers’ loud conversations, laughter, music, games and more may find themselves choosing to avoid going to the beach altogether, missing out on some summer fun.

But one mum has shared an ideal solution - a “backwards beach day”. It’s not a new concept but it is one some people may not have considered before.

It involves completing standard daily activities during the daytime and venturing to the beach much later, when most people have gone home.

Though it offers less time in the sun, it usually sees less crowding and a much quieter, more relaxed atmosphere.

One mum shared a TikTok video of her experience of a “backward beach day”. In the footage, the mum shows a few people playing in the ocean while she and her baby daughter relax on a sun lounger, with the rest of the beach looking empty and deserted.

Over the top of the clip, she added the words: “Whoever said do a backward beach day was a genius."

In the comments section, people shared their thoughts.

One person said: “The joys of living near the beach. We don’t need to be there all day. We can take a 10 minute drive at 4pm, stay an hour, go home."

Another asked: “What's a backwards beach day?? If it's a late afternoon beach trip, [I’ve] been doing that for years lol. I take my seven-year-old to the beach at 5/6pm, he’s on the spectrum and I need close parking lol."

Someone else joked: “Backwards beach day is when you sit in the water and watch the sand."

Another person shared: “We did this Friday. It was perfect!”

And another agreed: “Backwards beach days are the greatest thing ever!! Keeps everyone’s sanity on vacation!!”

One person revealed: “That’s my regular beach time. I didn't realise this was unusual."

Another commented: “No seriously. Did this on vacay & got my sun by the pool during the day, then chilled on the beach with my husband in the evening!”

Someone else added: “I will never go to the beach before 7pm again in my life”.
