Amid allegations of electoral irregularities, the Congress party on Friday intensified its battle for voting transparency by launching a campaign urging people to display a special "Freedom from Vote Theft" (Azadi from Vote Chori) display picture (DP) on their social media accounts. This move is positioned as support for Rahul Gandhi’s fight to protect the people’s mandate, expose what Congress calls the Election Commission–BJP conspiracy over vote fraud, and defend democracy.
Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that "every vote stolen is a theft of our voice and identity." He asked supporters to update their display pictures as a digital form of protest, highlighting the seriousness of the party’s campaign against what they allege are systemic electoral malpractices.
The party has provided an official link to generate the campaign DP, which features slogans like "Azadi from Vote Chori" and "Stop Vote Chori" in bold text. Numerous prominent Congress leaders have already updated their social media profiles with the new image. Additionally, Congress launched a dedicated campaign web portal to allow citizens to sign up, demand greater accountability from the Election Commission, and support calls for implementing a digital voter list for increased transparency.
Meanwhile, both the Election Commission and the BJP have strongly dismissed the Congress’s allegations of vote theft. However, the party’s nationwide digital campaign is gathering momentum, aiming to build public pressure for stricter electoral safeguards and the “protection of India’s democratic voice.”
