Golfer leaves playing partner and spectators absolutely speechless after scare

It turns out professional golfers are pretty good at what they do. Who'd have thought it? However, this one shot in particular left spectators stunned by not only the execution, but also the audacity to take it on.

If there were a Puskas Award equivalent for golf, where a prize is given for the 'Best Shot of the Year', Laura Wearn would be right in the mix. Her overall scorecard at the Epson Tour's Carlisle Arizona Women's Golf Classic over the weekend might've been left wanting, with the American finishing T32 in the event. But her final shot of the day made up for all the previous mistakes.

During her approach to the green, Wearn's ball had landed just left of the ridge near a water hazard as she survived a big scare. The right-handed player was left in a bit of a predicament, with Wearn forced to flip over her wedge, switch hands and attempt to up and down it into the hole.

Playing about 30 yards on a slight downwards slope, spectators were initially impressed with the fact that she'd managed to keep the ball on a straight line. Few could've imagined what followed next...

As it edged closer and closer to the pin, fans began urging the ball to sink into the hole. It did just that, sparking scenes of jubilation at the TPC Scottsdale's Champions Course in Scottsdale as she confirmed the par-five eagle. Plenty of applause and cheers followed, but Wearn, keeping her cool, returned to her bag and trundled off back to the clubhouse as if nothing spectacular had happened at all.

Social media footage captured from the event showcased the marvellous effort, with fans and fellow pros alike commenting on the strike. Tour professional Leslie Cloots wrote on Instagram: "I just threw my phone down and started clapping for you.

Amelia Garvey added: "This is the best thing I've seen all year."

And Dana Fall, who played alongside Wearn, commented: "Witness. Absolutely unreal shot. If this didn't sum up the day idk [I don't know] what will."

Former player Oliver Wilson wrote: "That's how you finish a tournament."

It came at the end of a troubling final round for Wearn, who prior to the three-stroke eagle had carded up a double bogey, bogey, double bogey, birdie, double bogey in consecutive shots.
