Liverpool are reportedly considering a move for Toulouse star Charlie Cresswell. The Reds are in the market for a new centre-back after selling Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen earlier this summer as part of their major reshuffle.
Ibrahima Konate also faces an uncertain future on Merseyside, with Real Madrid monitoring his situation closely. The France international is out of contract next summer and talks to extend his deal are not progressing, leaving the Reds with a tough decision to make.
Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guehi has previously been cited as Liverpool's ideal defensive signing, with the England international similarly having just one year left on his contract at Selhurst Park.
The Reds are yet to make a concrete approach for Guehi at this stage, and they appear to be eyeing up alternative options as well. According to GiveMeSport, Liverpool are keeping a 'close eye' on Toulouse's Cresswell.
The 22-year-old impressed in the Ligue 1 last season following his summer move from Leeds United, and Slot's side are said to have regularly scouted him to monitor his progress at the club.
Cresswell also impressed over the summer, playing a key role in England's Under-21 European Championship success, and his performances did not go unnoticed in the Premier League. Liverpool are among his admirers, but they have not made an 'active move' to secure his signature at this stage. However, he does remain under consideration.
The Reds are in the market for a defender who they can develop further but also provide depth when required, and Cresswell ticks both of those boxes. He is also viewed as someone capable of stepping up and performing for a top-six side in the future, and Liverpool may look to make a move sooner rather than later to avoid any bidding wars with their rivals further down the line.
Slot's side have been aggressive in the transfer market so far, so making a push for both Guehi and Cresswell should not be ruled out - especially as Konate's situation is certainly not breeding confidence and reports about a move to Madrid are not going away.
Liverpool are plotting other marquee signings elsewhere on the pitch too, with a winger being eyed as well as Newcastle striker Alexander Isak.
