Man Utd have three reasons to sanction £43m transfer for Serie A star

Manchester United haven't wasted any time in the summer transfer window, as Ruben Amorim looks to ready his squad for a crucial Premier League campaign. There's no European football for United to look forward to next season, which initially looked as if it might hinder their plans in the market.

That doesn't appear to have been the case so far, with United having signed Matheus Cunha for £62.5million from Wolves earlier this summer. The 20-time champions are also said to be closing in on the purchase of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford, with three more positions on the club's transfer radar.

United are reportedly keen to add options in the striker, midfield and goalkeeper departments before the September 1 deadline. According to Caught Offside, Atalanta shot-stopper Marco Carnesecchi has emerged as a credible option for the Old Trafford outfit, with a fee of £43m having been touted.

If United were successful in their pursuit of Carnesecchi, it would likely bring an end to Andre Onana's time as No.1 between the sticks for United, even though he joined from Inter Milan just two seasons ago. And ahead of a potential goalkeeper swoop, Express Sport have detailed three reasons why United should sanction a move for Carnesecchi.

Andre Onana's errors are proving too costly

Howlers were far too common for Onana last season, with the Cameroon international failing to improve after a questionable debut campaign with the club. Only three players in the division committed more errors that led to goals than the ex-Inter Milan ace, and as a result, it would appear Amorim's patience has finally run out. Onana will no doubt point to the patchwork defence in front of him as a reason for the shakiness at the back, but if United want to climb up the table next season, they can't afford to have a liability between the sticks.

Get it right and Man United are set for years

One of the upsides to chasing Carnesecchi as United's new goalkeeper is his admirable age profile. The Italian turns 25 this week, meaning with a bit of luck, his best years are still to come. If it works out for the Italy U21 international, he could find himself as United's first-choice goalkeeper for the best part of the next decade.

Avoid Premier League premium

While splurging north of £40m on a goalkeeper is by no means cheap, given the age and potential of Carnesecchi, he'd cost plenty more if United were buying from a fellow Premier League side. The 15th-placed outfit are finding this out during reported talks with Aston Villa for Emiliano Martinez, who is said to be commanding a £45m valuation. That's despite the fact he turns 33 in September and may have already reached his peak.
