Manchester United are considering offloading Rasmus Hojlund this summer, with a price tag of £30million reportedly set for the striker.
The Red Devils are on the hunt for a new forward, with RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko, valued at £70m, topping their wish list. However, they face stiff competition from Newcastle for his signature.
Hojlund, who netted the first goal in United's 4-1 victory over Bournemouth in Chicago on Wednesday, has expressed his desire to stay and fight for his place next season. However, should United succeed in signing Sesko or another forward, the 22-year-old Dane may find his playing time limited, especially as Ruben Amorim's side will not be competing in Europe next season.
A potential swap deal involving Hojlund moving to Leipzig and Sesko joining United has been mooted, but it's understood that the Danish international is not keen on a move to the Bundesliga club. Last season, Hojlund, who was signed from Atalanta for £72m in 2023, managed just 10 goals across all competitions, highlighting United's need for a more prolific striker.
United target Sesko has already seen a bid from Newcastle rejected by Leipzig. The Magpies proposed £65.5m plus over £4m in add-ons, but the Bundesliga side are hoping interest from Old Trafford will inflate the Slovenian star's value.
Sesko, who found the back of the net 13 times last season, was notably absent from Leipzig's squad for their friendly against Serie A side Atalanta on Saturday. The forward is contracted until 2029.
United have already engaged in discussions with both the player and his club, and despite significant investments in talents like Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha this summer, the club is poised to add a forward without the need to offload any current squad members. However, Hojlund's position at the club could be under threat with the arrival of more competition.
When questioned about any guarantees from the club regarding his future, Hojlund admitted earlier this week: "Nothing so far. I think the most important thing for me is just to keep working hard and stay focused and then obviously we'll see what happens. I think my plan is very clear and that's for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens.
"Competition is fine with me, it sharpens me. I'm more than ready. I'm feeling sharp, so I'm welcoming everything that comes. I think it's good with competition and it only sharpens the team.
"I'm still very young. I think people forget that sometimes. I'm only 22. Obviously, not every striker is scoring 100 goals at the age of 22. But I've learned a lot, I think you can see in my game.
"I'm starting to develop and become even better at the basics. Now it's just about for me to sharpen myself and I've done very well in the pre-season, so far. Just focusing on continuing that."
