Princess Kate and Prince William invited on major royal tour after key meeting

The Prince and Princess of Wales have been invited to take a royal tour of Australia by the country's prime minister. Anthony Albanese said there was a "standing invitation" for Kate and William to visit the country in the "coming period". He is hopeful they will take up the offer.

It's been three years since the royal couple embarked on a major foreign tour. Their last was their highly criticised trip to the Caribbean for the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee in 2022. But later that year, they did travel to Boston, USA, for the annual Earthshot Prize.

Mr Albanese made the comments after he travelled to Balmoral for an official audience with the King. The pair, who met last October during the King and Queen's nine-day tour to Australia, posed for photos.

Speaking after their meeting, the Prime Minister was asked whether Kate and William would be invited for a royal tour.

He said: "I'm certainly hoping there will be one, there's a standing invitation that the royal family are always welcome in Australia.

"It was wonderful to welcome King Charles and Queen Camilla to Australia recently, that had a very successful visit and His Majesty is very engaged and I hope that the Prince and Princess of Wales are able to visit as well and we are hopeful that might occur in the coming period".
