The relationship of Oasis frontmen Liam and Noel Gallagher was like a "ticking time bomb" before a massive feud sent them on separate paths for 16 years. The brothers stormed into the British music scene in 1994 with their debut album Definitely Maybe and were famed for their brilliant creativity and rippling hostility towards each other.
While both things helped to fuel their rise, it was the seething tensions that eventually led to the downfall of the Britpop band. Every spat, every power struggle, and every cutting remark became part of the Oasis legend. Liam's unpredictable behaviour often collided with Noel's more calculated approach, though both were equally fiery. The very same year that their first album was released, the brothers found themselves embroiled in their first public spat - setting a very explosive tone for the band. During Oasis's first North American tour, at the Whisky a Go Go in Los Angeles, Noel quit the band temporarily as a reportedly drunken Liam threw a tambourine at him.
By 1995 their fall-outs became even more public. Once more tensions rose so much that the brothers physically lashed out. During the recording sessions for Morning Glory in Wales, Noel reportedly hit Liam over the head with a cricket bat, after the brother interrupted his work - an incident that has since become rock folklore.
In 1996, the band was forced to power through without Liam in attendance. Oasis were scheduled to perform on MTV Unplugged, but he said he had a sore throat at the time. Just days later, Liam refused to join the band on their US tour, claiming he needed to stay behind to sort out his house for his then-wife, causing several shows to be cancelled and deepened the already forming rift between the brothers.
In 2000, things went from bad to worse as Noel admitted that he couldn't forgive his brother. They were in Barcelona enjoying a few too many drinks when Liam reportedly questioned the legitimacy of Noel's daughter with ex-wife Meg Mathews, Anaïs. The argument erupted into a physical altercation with Noel deciding to walk out on the bad.
Reflecting on the fallout, Noel later said: "I've never forgiven him because he's never apologised." He added: "He's my brother, but he's at arm's length until he apologises for what he's done."
Soon enough the brothers reunited once more but the incident left a lasting scar on their relationship. Nine years later, the final straw came with a heavy blow - and it was as dramatic as anyone could have imagined.

Oasis were set to headline the Rock en Seine festival in Paris but the night ended in Noel making a decision that would rock the music world. Backstage, a trivial thing erupted into something major as the tension between Liam and Noel reached its boiling point.
According to Noel, Liam came into the dressing room wielding one of Noel's guitars "like an axe," before smashing it up. Noel described the moment in a later interview: "The details are not important and of too great a number to list.
"But I feel you have the right to know that the level of verbal and violent intimidation towards me, my family, friends, and comrades has become intolerable."
That same day he released a statement, which said: "It's with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight." It added: "People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer."
The band's remaining tour dates were immediately cancelled, and the group disbanded, leaving fans stunned.
