Salmon is a popular dish across the UK during the summer months due to its freshness and delicious taste. It can be used in a number of different recipes and cooked in a variety of ways, including grilling, baking and smoking.
Baked salmon is a really easy and quick method but can sometimes be a bit bland. Most home chefs would use seasonings such as salt and pepper, or even a glaze, to elevate the dish. However, one simple ingredient can help to elevate salmon further and turn it into a "dinner centerpiece".
According to Simply Recipes, white miso can add extra flavour to baked salmon. It offers a mild and slightly sweet flavour which gives salmon an extra dimension.
Simply Recipes said: "I attribute the appeal of baked salmon-whether it's simply seasoned with salt and pepper or topped with a glaze-to one ingredient I always use to season it: shiro (white) miso.
"It's my secret weapon for turning this fatty fish into a weeknight dinner centerpiece. It's salty, earthy, and funky, which translates to flavor, flavor, and more flavor without overwhelming the fish or the other ingredients."
They recommend using two tablespoons of miso for around 600g of salmon. Home chefs should use it to create a marinade alongside soy sauce, maple syrup, garlic and pepper.
"Spoon and spread it on top of the salmon. Just one side of the fish, the skinless side, is sufficient," the recipe reads. "I turn the oven on at this point so that the fish marinates during the 10 to 15 minutes it takes to get it to 425°F.
"That's plenty of time for the salmon to absorb the flavor, but it isn't necessary to marinate it-you can bake it right away, even in an air fryer."
Miso can also be added to other baked salmon recipes. You can add one tablespoon of it directly on the fish to create an easy glaze.
Simply Recipes added: "Miso is salty, so I either don't add salt or reduce it by at least half. You won't taste the miso, but you'll notice the oomph in flavor."
