Jenna Ortega has revealed that Wednesday Addams will be experiencing a "living hell" when Wednesday returns to Netflix.
Three years have passed since Wednesday first launched internationally and became an unlikely global sensation centred around the world of the Addams Family.
The first series followed Wednesday Addams (portrayed by Jenna Ortega) as she began attending Nevermore Academy, a boarding school for misfits, from werewolves and vampires to sirens and gorgons.
Wednesday hardly settled in when she initially arrived but by the term's end, she had rescued Nevermore Academy from both Joseph Crackstone (William Houston) and Laurel Gates (Marilyn Thornhill).
Whilst the second series will progress to a fresh adventure for Wednesday, the events of the first series continue to impact the macabre teenager.
Discussing the forthcoming episodes, creator Alfred Gough revealed to Netflix: "Wednesday deals with the fact that back at Nevermore, she's suddenly incredibly popular, which drives her insane."
When Ortega was questioned about Wednesday's return to Nevermore, she observed: "The atmosphere at Nevermore in the beginning of the school year is a living hell.
"It's this terrible situation for Wednesday and she's very upset."
Expanding on the teenager's reaction to her new-found fame, Ortega added: "Wednesday rejects mainstream ideas and concepts and attention and everybody on the show doesn't.
"Then this weird, insane reception happened with the show, and she's still fighting that and it's an uncomfortable place to be in.
"But also, it's very easy to group people into these big bandwagons, but everyone internally always feels a bit odd, or they feel a bit left out, or they feel like they're not really able to connect.
"It seems so contradictory to what Wednesday is, but at the same time, that's kind of the point, if that makes sense.
"She's such an admirable, honest, truthful character who is a loner."
This season, Wednesday will be wrestling with her burgeoning powers, particularly after witnessing a horrifying vision of Enid Sinclair's (Emma Myers) demise.
Meanwhile, new headmaster Barry Dort (Steve Buscemi) will be making his entrance at Nevermore Academy, though his "presence is shrouded in mystery."
Wednesday season two premieres on Wednesday, August 6, on Netflix.
