CHENNAI: The law ministry on Monday notified the appointment of Justice M Sundar of Madras high court as the chief justice (CJ) of Manipur high court. In another order, Justice Soumen Sen of Calcutta high court has been appointed as the acting chief justice of that HC.
Justice Sundar takes charge from incumbent chief justice Kempaiah Somashekar, who retired on Monday after attaining the age of 62 years.
However, the govt is yet to notify two other recommendations made by the Supreme Court Collegium on Thursday, when it had sought the elevation of three judges as chief justices of different high courts.
The Collegium has recommended the appointment of Karnataka high court 's Justice Pavan Kumar B Bajanthri as the chief justice of Patna HC and Calcutta high court's Justice Soumen Sen as the chief justice of Meghalaya high court. Justice Pawan Kumar Bajanthri is at present serving as the acting CJ of Patna HC.
