NEW DELHI: Against a vacancy of 371 judges across high courts, HC collegiums have not made any recommendation for 193 posts, which is more than 52% of the total vacancy, law minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Thursday said replying to a question in Rajya Sabha on the pendency of SC collegium recommendations for appointment of judges to high courts.
He was responding to a question raised by leader of the opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge , who asked the minister to provide details of recommendations made by the SC collegium that are pending and the duration of such pendency.
The question came in the context of a recent SC observations regarding the need for the government to clear its recommendations.
