Hagaribommanahalli: In a heartbreaking incident, the body of an unidentified newborn baby girl was found floating in a drain in Dashmapura village on Saturday, June 21.
According to the police, a case has been registered at the town police station following the discovery.
As per the complaint filed by Asha worker Mallamma, residents noticed the lifeless body of a newborn girl floating in a drain near the house of Kanivehalli Krishnappa in the village. Upon learning about the incident, Mallamma immediately informed Gram Development Officer Naveen, who rushed to the spot with gram panchayat staff.
When the infant’s body was retrieved, it appeared to be around 2–3 days old. It was unclear whether the baby was still alive at the time of discovery, prompting officials to alert the local Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), Boregowda.
Supervisors from the department, Nagaratnamma and Lalithamma, visited the site, and a formal complaint was filed with the police seeking to identify the parents or guardians of the deceased child and initiate legal action.
An investigation is currently underway.
